  • Gangneung Danoje Festival

    (Additional description) It is the oldest festival in Gangneung, with over 1,000 years of tradition, and it is one of the biggest festivities hosted in Gangneung every year on Surit Day (May 5 on the lunar calendar). It was designated as an important intangible cultural asset in 1967 for its historicity and cultural inclusiveness, with its ancestral rites, Dano gut, Nori Madang, and Nanjang (flea markets), and was named a UNESCO "Masterpiece of the Oral Intangible Heritage of Humanity" in 2005.

  • Gangneung Cherry Blossom Festival

    (Additional description) It is held every April, when the cherry blossoms planted around Gangneung Gyeongpo Lake are in full bloom. The Gangneung Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place where the sea and the lake meet, includes a variety of events such as experience booths, busking, and citizen singing contests.

  • Gangneung Sunrise Festival

    (Additional description) The beach known as "Jeongdongjin" is located in Jeongdongjin-ri, Gangdong-myeon, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do. It was named meaning a village with a ferry to the straight east of Gwanghwamun in Hanyang. Since this location is well-known as the best sunrise spot in the country, it is a popular tourist destination that many people visit to watch the New Year's sunrise.

  • Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival

    (Additional description) It is a representative independent film festival in Korea, which began in 1999 with the unique idea of outdoor screenings of all films under the theme "the sky where stars fall, the sea where films rise." It is noteworthy because it extends the basis of independent films in Korea and is a film festival that Gangneung citizens love.
